Climate Resiliency Specialist

This position works to support and develop the Wild Rivers Conservancy’s climate change mitigation and adaption planning, program support, monitoring and research initiatives, and projects. They will work to recognize the challenges posed by a changing climate and adopt proactive strategies to protect and enhance the St. Croix River watershed. Wild Rivers Conservancy is the official nonprofit partner of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. The Conservancy’s mission is to inspire stewardship to forever ensure the rare ecological integrity of the St. Croix and Namekagon Riverway.

The Climate Resiliency Specialist position is an instrumental part of advancing the organization's strategic priorities focused on protecting and enhancing the natural resources and ecosystems in the St. Croix River watershed and implementing a climate adaptation plan. This position will work under the direction of the Natural Resources Manager and play a key role with implementing climate practices in all program areas. The ideal candidate has a passion for climate change and advocacy within the context of forestry, land management, water quality, and education.


Core Functions

  • Support integration, maintenance, and roll out of climate resilience decision-making tools, science, and data into the Conservancy’s plans and actions.
  • Bring current research and industry practices on climate change adaptation and mitigation into organizational planning, including but not limited to, land protection plans, forest management plans, and watershed management plans.
  • Participate in developing practices for climate change mitigation and support staff as an advisor on projects and initiatives.
  • Support working groups across the organization to identify, plan, and internal procedures regarding climate resilience.
  • Develop a forestry-based climate mitigation and adaptation program focused on increasing forest cover and adapting our forests to a changing climate.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain partnerships with key watershed stakeholders to complement and enhance local and regional efforts and projects and represent the Conservancy.



  • Knowledge of current climate trends, studies, and practices in conservation, natural resources, forestry, environmental studies, , especially within the upper Midwest.
  • Familiarity with forested ecosystems and regional forestry best management practices.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office, Global Positioning System (GPS), and ArcGIS software.
  • Highly developed organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with database management, tracking and reporting data and project results.
  • Outstanding verbal and writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
  • Familiarity with grant application procedures, administration, and reporting.
  • Experience effectively and cooperatively coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Able to self-manage time and assignments, capable of working under pressure while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Must have a car and valid driver’s license and be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.


The Climate Resiliency Specialist is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits, with a salary range of $45K to $55K. The office is based in the picturesque river town of Osceola, Wisconsin. This position will have flexible hours and will require some travel for events and activities throughout the St. Croix watershed.
